Message from the Dean

Dean Khurana

Dear Harvard College Parents and Guardians,

Harvard College and the City of Cambridge continues to endure relatively calm winter weather and the past few days have brought 60-degree temperatures, robust sunshine, and a spring awakening. Classes and activities are in full swing, and over the next few weeks, the College looks forward to our annual Housing Day on March 9, and the Harvard Foundation’s annual Cultural Rhythms and Humanitarian of the Year events. I look forward to engaging with you and your students both on and off campus.

Warmly,
Rakesh Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College

Plan Ahead!

Housing Day 2016
Housing Day
Thursday, March 9, 2017

Housing Day is coming up fast. This annual event sees students sorted into one of Harvard’s 12 upperclass Houses. Freshmen are informed of their House assignment by the residents of their new Houses, who storm their dorm rooms with the good news. Follow the excitement on social media via #HousingDay2017 and by visiting college.harvard.edu on March 9, 2017.

But a handful of Harvard freshmen got the chance to experience real lab work by exploring how altering genes in yeast affected the cells’ functions. Read more

Did You Know?

Harvard College received 39,494 applications for its Class of 2021, setting a new record for the third year in a row and surpassing last year’s total by 450 applications.

Guests Dorell B. (from left) and Janet B. pose with fifth-year Graduate School of Arts and Sciences student Sam Wellington. Dorell is hoping to enroll at Bunker Hill Community College. Janet is studying to be a veterinarian at Roxbury Community College. Both appreciate the help Y2Y gives them with housing and job issues, as well as the stress-free environment there. Sam studies tuberculosis and will be getting her Ph.D. in chemical biology this spring. She volunteers for nearly 30 hours a week, and appreciates the people focus at Y2Y, so different from her lab work.

STUDENT EXPERIENCE
